Sandi’s Christmas Letter
(Now I lay me down to sleep)的祷文,直到他五岁左右。

“Blonde Hair & Blue Eyes”
As many of you do, or did, each night with your little ones, I said night-time prayers with our son, Rett. We prayed the “Now I lay me down to sleep” prayer with him until he reached around the age of 5 years old. Then I felt I should teach him how to pray from his heart, instead of his memorized prayer. We prayed about everything! We would take turns praying each night. When it was my turn, I prayed for the “little girl” out there in the world that God had created just for Rett, to be his wife, someday. I prayed she would be a strong Christian woman that would love him with all her heart. When he reached about the age of 9, at our bedtime prayers, I came to the part about the little girl that would someday be his wife. He stopped me & said, “would it be alright if we asked God for the little girl to have “blonde hair & blue eyes?” I told him that you could ask God for anything; but it really wasn’t important that she had “blonde hair & blue eyes”; she could have dark hair & dark eyes like his, as long as she is a Christian & would love him with all her heart, the way that God intended.
The next night it was Rett’s turn to pray. He prayed for all his family, friends & school; you know, all the things that are routine to pray for as a child. He came to the part about his future wife & he prayed for her to be a Christian & love children, like he did & then in closing he said, “I know it really doesn’t matter what she looks like on the outside, as long as she is a good person & loves me, but if it is okay with You, I really want her to have ‘blonde hair & blue eyes,’ thank you God. Amen.” I held back my laughter & I just smiled & knew that as the years went by, his desire for a “blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl” would change. Isn’t it funny what we think is important as a child; actually, even as an adult. Have you ever heard that Garth Brooks song, “Unanswered Prayers?” If you haven’t, it all comes down to our heart’s desire, in the moment, but it may not be what is best for us in the long run. The bottom line is…. you really want what God gives you. He knows what we “need” is more important than what we “want.”
We will be praying for you as you receive this card, that God will give you what you need to make your life & footprint here on earth, an “eternally” good & lasting one. By the way, our son is 18 years old now, he still wants a wife with “blonde hair & blue eyes.” Oh, dear……
Merry Christmas from our hearts to yours!
“Therefore, a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
Genesis 2:24 ESV
